Yunyi Ji

ACCOMPANIST, MUSICIANSHIP COACH

I am a Chinese-American pianist and harpsichordist based in Oakland, California. I am passionate about creating holistic understandings of instruments and exploring how their changing forms have mirrored the changes of society. I specialize in integrating music history into my performance and teaching work, with my goal to impart a rich perspective of the cultural impact of music alongside its creative artistry and technical craft. I believe that performing music teaches a philosophy of being that extends to all aspects of a well-lived life: it necessitates strategy, time management, self-awareness, diligence, persistence, confidence, critical thinking, connectivity, and emotional management — altogether synthesized for the purpose of an authentic, unbridled, and passionate sense of self-expression.

I hold keyboard performance degrees from The Eastman School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and The Juilliard School. I serve as faculty in the Pre-College and Continuing Education divisions at SFCM as well as principal keyboardist of Zephyr Symphony. I am founder and co-director of Parallax Concerts, a rising early music/contemporary music series that showcases the universality and breadth within music created at distant points in time. yunyiji.com
