Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never sung before, and I can’t read music. Can I join the Choir?
Choir is non-audition and open to all who are willing to commit the time. You will be guided on how to read music and encouraged by friendly members in your section. Trust that no matter your prior singing experience, you will feel at home in Choir.
If I haven't sung in a while, might I benefit from friendly group voice lessons?
Yes. New singers are encouraged to join the group voice class offered prior to Monday Choir rehearsals.
I have sung in Choirs before. Am I ready to audition for Chamber Choir?
Yes. Chamber choir members should have experience singing in a smaller group (i.e., be comfortable sight-singing with only 1-2 voices per part). Admittance to the chamber choir requires a friendly audition.
Can I try an ensemble or group voice class without committing?
Yes. We offer free welcome sessions at the beginning of each session for each ensemble or group voice class for members to try and see how they feel.
What type of music do you sing/play? Is this a religious group?
We sing and rehearse music of all different styles, cultures, and traditions. We are not a religious organization.
I can’t attend all of the rehearsals. What is your policy on absences?
We understand that you may not be able to attend all rehearsals and ask that you let us know about conflicts in advance. If 3 rehearsals are missed, you will need to check in with our Artistic Director to ensure you are sufficiently prepared for the concert. If you know in advance that you will be unable to perform at the concert, we ask that you do not register for the session.
What is expected of me outside of scheduled rehearsals?
Choir members rehearse on their own time and are expected to come to rehearsals prepared and on time. We provide each singer with a binder full of sheet music and links to rehearsal tracks. Each section coordinates (optional but fun!) sectionals at members’ homes to work together on cohesiveness.
How else can I get involved?
We take pride in community involvement! Choir members are encouraged to participate by becoming a section leader, signing up to bring snacks to rehearsals, or posting flyers to promote our events.
If you don’t sing with us, there are still opportunities to volunteer. We appreciate help with outreach, marketing, and at performances with the box office or photography.
What does it cost to join?
We have three sessions each year: Winter, Spring, and Fall. Each culminates in a performance. Monthly payment plans and scholarship opportunities are available. We also offer a 10% early bird discount for those who register early and pay in full. Fees are non-refundable after registration. Membership dues per ensemble are as follows:
